ABSTRACT
In Chapter fi ve we discussed the importance of friendship (see also Read et al., forthcoming for a further analysis of this) not just as a means of enabling feelings of belonging but also as dimensions of social networking. As we argued, social networking can provide students with useful opportunities to access valuable resources for furthering their studies and gain high-status employment opportunities. Peer relations therefore arguably take on added importance. With this is mind, in this chapter, we discuss aspects of peer relations and specifi cally White student perceptions and constructions of their fellow BME and working-class students.
