ABSTRACT

Example 10.1 shows that 54 has two strong beats and that they are spaced unequally, dividing the bar into either 2 beats + 3 beats, or 3 beats + 2 beats.

Example 10.3 shows three different configurations for 78 time. Just as we thought of 58 as a simple/ compound hybrid, it is also possible to think of 78 as a triple meter that has two simple beats and one compound beat. Again, take note of the beaming, which groups eighth-notes into easily recognized beats.
