ABSTRACT
The chal lenge of crime in the United States remains a major social problem that has serious and some times deadly consequences; however, over the past decade and a half, the size of the problem has abated as the nature of crime has changed. For example, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (2013) reports that the crime rate contin ued to decreased between 1998 and 2012.
