ABSTRACT

A teacher once said that he had 100 reasons to get out of bed and teach every day and that his greatest joy was greeting those 100 “reasons” and calling them by name 5 days a week in his classroom. In addition to being excited about mathematics, successful teachers who enjoy their jobs need to be equally excited about kids-after all, the development of problem solving and thinking skills in students is the ultimate product of our efforts. It is very rewarding for a teacher to see a student volunteer a nonroutine approach to a problem, make an effective presentation to the class, or suddenly gain a profound insight on a task. Indeed, the teaching profession carries with it a great deal of interaction with children and young adults, which can be exciting and gratifying.
