ABSTRACT

The creation of virtual environments and game worlds is a topic that by itself could easily fill a book. Our goal in this chapter is not for the reader to emerge on the other side knowing every detail about this fascinating subject. Rather, our aim is for the reader to have a solid foundation of the tools and techniques used within Unity to create game worlds. With this solid foundation in place, we will be prepared to expand our knowledge into more intricate environments, especially through a more detailed exploration of lighting. When creating a game world, it is important to keep in mind the needs of the story and the needs of the game; the two must merge in this area even more so than in the previous topics. The game world becomes the visual representation of the story’s environment and setting as well as the location in which the player experiences the game that has been created for them.
