ABSTRACT

The chapter includes techniques that aim to develop writing fluency and the ability to produce written language to meet functional needs at the word, phrase, memorized chunk, sentence, paragraph, and extended discourse levels, graded along the three intended proficiency levels: novice, intermediate, and advanced. Writing is viewed as a process rather than a product and goes through several steps of drafting, editing, reediting, and so on. The offered techniques include those that beneficially focus on writing in isolation, especially at the beginning level, and those that integrate one or more skills in order to optimize learning and develop language skills in parallel.
