ABSTRACT

Grief camps need to be studied more thoroughly, including randomized control trials with children who receive grief camp interventions and standard community-based grief group interventions. Piaget's cognitive development theory is by no means universally accepted. Most theorists now assume that cognitive development is a process without rigid boundaries between thinking styles. Professional and volunteer care givers who work with bereaved young people make up the Irish Childhood Bereavement Network (ICBN). When one considers the " human capital" required for a weekend camp, many program leaders would want to see results that exceed those of grief groups within the community. Facilitators who lead bereavement groups and agency staff members who coordinate programs focused on bereaved children and teens will want to consult the very fine published manuals for specific ideas about leading groups. Even though developmental psychologists assume " magical thinking" begins to dissipate in the middle years of childhood, adolescents sometimes act as if they are still captivated by it.
