ABSTRACT
The quality and shape of light in a place sets its character. The flow of light spaces, as they change either gradually or abruptly, can draw us forward, make our hearts leap or speak of mystery and danger. The experience of light space is perhaps one of the easiest to understand. Like tectonic space, its immediate effects are experienced through sight, the predominant human sensory mode. Yet the phenomenological experience of being immersed in light is rarely discussed.
