ABSTRACT

The natural rhythms of life from season to season and morning to night mark the progress of time as we inhabit a place. The sensescape evolves around us and we experience new smells, sounds, textures of light. They may change quickly with the brewing of a storm or slowly over the progression of seasons. The sensescape also evolves as we move our bodies from place to place. Again, the changes may be rapid as we move from inside to outside on a winter day or gradual as we walk from the city center

to the countryside. In this chapter, we will explore this movement and change of sensory experience and how it adds a textural rhythm to our sensory world.
