ABSTRACT
This four-record set opens with justification for broadcasting a translation of Chaucer over BBC radio: Chaucer himself was a great translator who wrote for oral delivery. The first 27lines of the General Prologue are read in a gently explanatory voice, in order to convey "the music of his language" but not particularly the sense of the text. "Felaweshipe" (GP 26) veers toward ModE pronunciation.
