ABSTRACT

Innovations themselves can be classified into the following categories: Non-technical innovation; innovative concepts; innovative ways of doing business and carrying out management, such as O2O and the digital wallet; process innovation; and technology-intensive innovations. China has an innovation system that is strongly supported by the government, which embraces the policy of nurturing 'indigenous innovation'. The level of development of its venture capital industry can be a good indicator of a nation's innovation capability. The Haier Open Innovation Centre has four major supporting teams: a business strategy team, a technical information team, a project management team and an expert committee. Reflecting the unique economics of the Chinese market and industry structure, Haier's strategic goal is to achieve 'zero-distance' between global users and innovation partners, allowing customers, suppliers, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to initiate and collaborate on product innovation.
