ABSTRACT

This final section examines the impact of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) on depression. Although still at the early stages of identifying and understanding some of the lesser-known effects of the virus, it is clear that people with mental health issues were particularly affected by the spread of infections and the interventions rolled out to mitigate impact. There was a significant rise in depression during this period. The usual support mechanisms, where available, were just not possible during the heights of the pandemic. Mental health services are still reeling from the shockwave COVID-19 unleashed on a world unprepared for an event as far-reaching as this.
