ABSTRACT

Over the following few pages, there will be an overview of the leading models of depression. To begin with, we shall look at biological accounts of depression and, in so doing, cover a range of explanations that include genetics, neurochemistry, and immune responses. This will be followed by environmental accounts that consider individual vulnerabilities to depression. Psychological models will then be examined and cover a range of approaches, including psychodynamic and cognitive explanations. The chapter will end with an exploration of evolutionary models.
