ABSTRACT

Before turning attention to various treatments for depression, this chapter will explore how depression presents at different life cycle stages. We will examine the onset of depression in children and young adults before looking at the experience of depression at the opposite end of the life spectrum. Much of this chapter, in fact, focuses on depression in older adults. This is essentially a reflection of my own expertise. Although Chapters 7 and 8 are set aside to examine treatments, given the specialist nature of this chapter, interventions will be discussed concerning children, adolescents, young adults, or older adults.
