ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on diversity management and discusses the business case for diversity. It also discusses of diversity climate and the research findings associated with diversity climate. The chapter examines different approaches to diversity management as well as diversity training and their effectiveness. It deals with best practices for diversity management. Diversity management research has generally shown positive effects of organizational diversity efforts on various employee outcomes. Research shows that diversity efforts can mitigate of the harmful effects of perceived discrimination in the workplace. Diversity management includes not only attracting and retaining a diverse workforce but also fostering an inclusive environment so that employees, regardless of their backgrounds, can work together toward organizational objectives. At the organizational level, several studies have found an association between diversity management and firm performance. From a policy-making standpoint, different diversity management programs vary in their effectiveness at increasing managerial diversity.
