ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that human beings are nearly genetically identical irrespective of their race. It explores racial/ethnic group differences including discrimination against various groups and the outcomes of discrimination. The chapter discusses White, African-American, Hispanic, Asian, and American Indian racial/ethnic groups. It investigates groups in the United States and also presents examples of racial and ethnic differences in various parts of the world. Hispanics can be of any racial origin, and the terms "Hispanic" and "Latino" represent an ethnicity according to the US government. Research has shown that race is one of the strongest demographic factor of workplace performance, mistreatment, and other behavior. Workplace discrimination has costs associated with it including a decrease in attitudes and increased turnover intentions. It is important for organizations and individuals to recognize that all of us have biases and are capable of discriminatory behaviour.
