ABSTRACT

Dynamic range refers to the ability of a sensor to capture the greatest range of tones from the minimum recordable shadow point to the brightest highlights and this is what we are going to focus on here in this chapter. While the Merge to HDR Pro feature in Photoshop can be used do a good job, the Camera Raw is a very effective tool for creating and processing high dynamic range images (HDR). Despite these physical problems we are now seeing improvements in sensor design, as well as in the Camera Raw software, which means it is now possible to capture wide dynamic range scenes more successfully in a single exposure and process them in Camera Raw. The other benefit from using Camera Raw as an HDR editor is you do not end up with the noticeable HDR look you tend to get when processing HDR files to render low dynamic range versions.
