ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 relates to interruptions and exceptions to laytime, starting with the distinction between them. This is followed by consideration of the contra proferentem rule and general principles relating to exceptions clauses, including fault. A discussion on general exceptions clauses follows, then consideration of particular types of exclusion clauses, starting with adverse weather and particular types of weather, followed by holidays and working in excepted periods. The next section is strikes and causation in relation thereto. Consideration of two particular strike clauses follow, the Centrocon strike clause and the Gencon strike clause. The final section of the chapter deals with shifting and lightening.
