ABSTRACT

Chapter 8 is a chapter on detention, starting with when that applies. This is followed by delays occurring at various stages of a voyage charter: before the vessel reaches its specified destination; during the running of laytime; whilst on demurrage after the end of laytime and/or demurrage; and finally, delay by agreement. The final section of the chapter deals with the applicability of the exceptions clause to claims for detention and the applicability of liens for damages for detention.
