Work and the World of Micropolitics book
Work, Marcel Mauss once said, is a ‘total social fact’ (Mauss quoted from Zimmermann 2001: 16561). Work is an activity that human beings find hard to avoid: people need something to eat if they are not to starve from hunger, to clothe themselves if they are not to freeze to death, and perhaps also to find entertainment if they are not to die of boredom; and to obtain such things they usually work, which is to say, they contribute manual labour, services, or expertise to productive processes.
