ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the connections between event and memory in order to reach a clearer understanding of the part memory plays within critical event studies (CES). It provides a somewhat idiosyncratic summary of the links between differing approaches to the study of memory and mainstream events management and event studies research. That overview is then combined with some alternative approaches, which come to the fore because of how they seem, in principle at least; to connect to the way we have been discussing a critical approach to the study of events. The chapter considers more closely the potentialities of considering the links between memory and event that emerge from adopting a critical approach to the study of events. It begins by considering the relationship between the experience/transformational economy and the commodification of memory in contemporary events management practice, as well as much of the work undertaken within the dominant paradigm within event studies.
