ABSTRACT

This chapter contains a few additional program features that can be substantive components of a cohesive Leadership Development System. Innovative approaches to internship experiences that occur during the school day should be identified by the Leadership Development System designers and the partners of the organization. Field-based experiences, practicums, and internships are all ways that aspiring and current school leaders can experience on-the-job training opportunities. It also has a profound and long-term impact on the development of leaders. While cohorts are often seen as a strategy for aspiring leadership preparation programs, the use of cohorts with current leaders is a powerful learning tool. In a commissioned study by the Wallace Foundation, Davis, Darling-Hammond, LaPointe, and Meyerson-2005 identified key features of successful leadership development programs. Ed Leadership Sims (ELS) provides experiential leadership development to K-12 administrators using computer-based simulations. ELS' objective is to provide peer-sourced simulations to build resilience, skills, and decision-making capacity in large numbers of educational leaders.
