ABSTRACT

In 2010, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Q&A television programme broadcast a programme from the Adelaide Festival in Australia that was concerned with the arts and their role and power in Australian Society (ABC 2010). Among the topics that were discussed was the role of government in providing support for the arts. The general consensus from the discussion was that public support is an essential requirement for a thriving and healthy arts sector, and this consensus was reached with little disagreement or controversy.
