ABSTRACT

The city and county of Aberdeen are of special interest in this inquiry. The relations existing between the private doctors and public health officials are cordial both in the city and in the county. Midwives in private practice sent for doctors in 158 cases, mostly for emergencies during and after confinement, but 11 during pregnancy, and 40 calls were in respect of the infant. The biological products are issued by the Health department free of charge to city practitioners, and are obtainable at the City Hospital Laboratory, or from the Chief Resident Medical Officer. A certain number of children needing hospital care are admitted to the institutions of the Aberdeen Town Council, and some patients also to the City Maternity Hospital. Aberdeen is a University town with an important medical school, requiring hospital beds and out-patient departments for its medical faculty; and it has, in addition, voluntary provision in hospitals for special diseases.
