ABSTRACT

Social media has become a powerful marketing tool for psychotherapy practice. A modern psychotherapy practice has presence in all of these areas: a website, social media, and third-party web providers. Think of therapist website as the home base of his online presence. Most therapist websites include a head shot, but a sizable minority choose not to have one. Finding the right picture can be daunting. Therapist website is comprised of a number of pages. One therapist might have pages for 'Individual Psychotherapy', 'Couples Therapy', 'Adolescents', 'Groups', and 'Consultation for Psychotherapists'. Another therapist might have links to the pages for 'Individual Therapy', 'Sex Therapy', 'Group Therapy and Workshops', and 'Supervision and Mentoring'. The two basic platforms for therapist professional social media presence are Facebook and LinkedIn. LinkedIn can be especially powerful for a therapist if he/she had a previous career in business or another field and are now in the mental health field.
