The cognitive component includes a mutual understanding as to how the coaching engagement will work, including the tasks and role expectations of the coach and client. The establishment and maintenance of the relational components of the Coaching Alliance require a pyramid of elements that build on and intertwine wiTheach other. The use of the Foursquare Coaching Framework assumes that both the cognitive and relational components of the Coaching Alliance are present and accounted for. If the Coaching Alliance is strong, then the coach is at liberty to confidently guide the client through the ever-changing landscape of the coaching conversation in pursuit of his or her desired goals and outcomes.
