ABSTRACT

The proposed level – complexity – risk (LCR) concept is based on two core principles and eight others specific to complex sport analytics, which are explained here for the first time. The concept makes it possible to elaborate a formal algorithm to be used for analytical purposes by elite athletes and sport organizations. To create a new concept and its special formal language it is necessary to accept the significance and influence of past achievements, stable abilities and expert skills and knowledge at each level of a system on the emergent behaviour of complex systems in sport. This chapter considers a framework which encompasses conceptual and technological changes which must be introduced into sport analytics so that it can be adapted to a complexity understanding of systems acting in individual and team sports. The first conceptual change pertaining to the complexity view relates to decision makers as complex systems making decisions for the control and management of other complex systems.
