ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to review scholarly aspects of the main developments in analytics for the purpose of possibly applying the knowledge amassed to create a new academic discipline, which has already been named 'sport analytics'. Sport is a model of physical contests between human systems. Parallels between sport contests with current military combat and security actions make this field a relevant sub-discipline that combines the efforts of managers, pedagogues, psychologists, physiologists and analysts. Consideration of sport analytics is the separation between sport performance and the organizational, business and financial activity surrounding this performance. The main considerations and clarification of analytical fundamentals of obtaining, computing and modelling data, information and knowledge, to support quality decision making (DM) in permanent states of uncertainty and risk on three planes: management in general, elite sport organization in particular and elite sport performance as a new subject of sport analytics.
