ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 explored the broad types of HED services that might be offered to university clients. The delivery of high-impact, valued services will be contingent on each individual developer and the way their role is enacted. Success will be predicated on the use of a diverse range of approaches and methodologies to provide proactive and adaptive support that effectively reflects the learning population’s needs and requirements. In this chapter, core approaches that developers are likely to employ are reviewed. It will be seen that the development of a diverse repertoire of professional skills and practices will enable appropriate support in diverse contexts. This review will also illustrate the importance of guiding new developers toward a nuanced understanding of their roles and context.
