ABSTRACT

This chapter indicates the considerable progress in the field of specific learning difficulties (SpLDs) and dyslexia. It explains the key points in the process of assessment and discuss the importance of this framework in providing some form of structure for the assessment process. Assessment is a powerful educational tool for promoting learning. Self-assessment is an important aspect in assessing the learner's progress. Every effort should be made to help the learner become more aware of how to tackle a question and to monitor his/her progress. The barriers to the student's learning in the classroom environment, including the curriculum, needs to be assessed and a holistic perspective taken cognitive, social, emotional and environmental. The use of ability measures, such as the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC), according to Siegel. The Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT) provides comprehensive insights into literacy acquisition and the scores can be correlated with the measures on the WISC.
