ABSTRACT

When asking local counselors whether they refer to psychoanalysis or not in their practice, 21 respondents out of 223 were positive. This suggests that psychoanalytic theory is not completely unknown in Hong Kong, but it remains marginal. In fact, none of the respondents from this sample reported adopting psychoanalysis alone, but always in combination with several other techniques, such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, cognitive therapy, narrative therapy, positive psychology, play therapy, behavioral therapy, group therapy, systemic therapy, brief therapy, art therapy, or task-centered approaches.
