ABSTRACT

This chapter provides information on developing and implementing a tiered system of mental health service delivery using cognitive behavioral therapy in schools. It brings all of the pieces together to show you how the system functions as a whole in two case studies. The chapter describes a school in a rural area of Florida serving a highly mobile population of students in which there are currently no universal programs to address behavior or mental health. It also describes the process and tools used to develop and implement a tiered system of mental health services that spans universal, targeted, and intensive interventions for students. Alexander Middle School located in a rural area of Florida. The school serves a racially and ethnically diverse population of students in Grades 6– 8. Hillmount High School is located in an impoverished part of Brooklyn, New York, and serves a racially and ethnically diverse group of students.
