ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author discuses how to identify students for Tier 3 services and develop treatment plans. Tier 3 is typically the most intensive level of service delivery available within the school setting. The chapter gives the lay of the land in terms of establishing intensive mental health supports for students. It addresses the following topics: identification of students for Tier 3 services, different formats that can be used to deliver individual cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), how to know if a student is a good candidate for individual CBT, other options for Tier 3 services if the student is not a good candidate for individual CBT, the intake process and its documentation, and developing the case formulation and treatment plan. A Modular approach to therapy for children with anxiety, depression, trauma, or conduct problems (MATCH-ADTC), is a single evidence-based therapy for the most common types of youth mental health concerns: anxiety, depression, trauma, and conduct problems.
