ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book suggests some general conclusions about the impact of conducting the Maximizing the Impact of Teaching Assistants (MITA) process based on the experiences of schools. It summarizes the main findings from the Effective Deployment of TAs project and then describes some of the key messages to arise from an evaluation of the MITA programme at the UCL Institute of Education (IOE). The EDTA project aims to develop alternative strategies to the three main components of the Wider Pedagogical Role (WPR) model to explain the DISS project findings: TA deployment, practice and preparedness. With regard to deployment, at the school level, SLTs thought more strategically about the purpose of the TA role and expectations in terms of pupil outcomes.
