ABSTRACT

For patients to be adequately cared for, and for their individual needs to be understood and met, input and information is required from multiple disciplines. Transferable technology is any tool, material or skill that can be imparted to non-experts by professionals who have expertise, skills and experience in a particular field/area. A major problem is finding expertise when there is no money available to pay for it and no immediate channels to access it. Here, transferable technologies can help by providing the means of linking areas with plentiful resources to those with no resources. There are many reasons why it is extremely difficult to define the term culture. One is that culture coexists with language, education and socio-economic status. Cultural diversity creates problems when it comes to developing transferable technologies and assessing/testing patients. Humans are deeply dependent on language for communicating with others.
