ABSTRACT

About 70 years ago, television won the public’s hearts and eyes, much to the chagrin of the radio industry. But through station formatting and focusing on music, radio found a way to live side by side with television. As new types of music have hit the airwaves, formatting options have expanded, which has led to more competition in many radio markets. And of course, digital technology vastly improved sound quality. But otherwise radio station operations have remained basically the same.
