ABSTRACT

This chapter includes three Facilitator's Guides utilizing the activities and materials. The sessions are designed to be experiential in nature, not merely a "sit and get", and average between 2 hours and 30 minutes to 3 hours in length. If possible, it is recommended that each teacher have a copy of Everyday Social and emotional learning (SEL) in hand during the professional development (PD) session. That way, they are able to turn to the corresponding page and make notes in real time after experientially participating in each activity. This process will help the teachers mentally bridge the gap between learner and facilitator and implement the activities with fidelity. By attending this session, participants model and encourage Self-Awareness, Self-Regulation, Social Awareness, Self-Efficacy, and Social Harmony in their classrooms. Many states have adopted SEL standards without providing guidance on how teachers should be trained in SEL.
