ABSTRACT

The activities in this chapter are written for kindergarten to fifth-grade classrooms, with modifications suggested throughout for early childhood learners and students with exceptionalities. The activities are designed to be included in the classroom POP Chart in the "Social: Cool Down and Focus" quadrant. As they are practiced in a group setting, the activities are designed to engage students interpersonally and center their energy through reflection and relaxation. After each activity has been taught, it should be added to the POP Chart, so teacher can utilize it any time throughout the day when the class needs to focus and get In the Zone. For early childhood learners or students with exceptionalities, photocopy a template with a smiley face, a space for students to draw their Boom, and a line to write their names. Have a sample posted near the Boom Board for student's reference. This helps make the activity accessible for students with limited writing proficiency.
