ABSTRACT

Presents types of qualitative data and ways it can be collected, processed, and managed. The chapter describes the nature of qualitative data, by explaining and illustrating various types of frequently used methods and techniques for data collection encountered in research in the learning sciences. The data collection process is discussed, highlighting essential decisions: planning data collection, ways to gain access, methods for data collection, relationship participants, and ensuring objectivity and rigor. The chapter also addresses how qualitative data, which is usually rich and varied, can be organized, processed, and managed.
