ABSTRACT

A general introduction to research validity, integrity and ethics, and impact. For quantitative research, five types of validity are discussed: construct validity, internal validity, ecological validity, external validity, and reliability. For qualitative research, trustworthiness, transparency, and authenticity are introduced. The discussion of research integrity includes plagiarism and duplicate publication, coerced and gratuitous co-authorship, and falsification and fabrication of data, as well as research integrity statements and Research Ethics Boards. “Impact” briefly describes the need of research to have an impact on society.
