ABSTRACT
City & Guilds publishes a separate unit syllabus for Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection. However, there are numerous similarities between the two units. Each unit's syllabus has been designed to assist a candidate to enhance their understanding of the principles, practices and legislation, embracing the requirements of statutory and non-statutory regulations, for either or both Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection of electrical installations. This chapter highlights the knowledge required by City & Guilds and explores a candidate's skills for the inspection, testing, commissioning and certification of electrical installations. A candidate's knowledge and understanding must encompass all the requirements of safe isolation, visual inspection requirements, safe testing, Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICR) and Electrical Installation Certificates (EIC). The candidate could also be required to identify the Health and Safety requirements that apply when inspecting, testing and commissioning electrical installations and circuits.
