ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides guidance on the practicalities of developing and sustaining a mindfulness practice, and shows how this can influence the coaching relationship and outcomes without explicit mindfulness interventions. The book discusses mindfulness and positive emotions as a means to cultivate unconditional positive regard, interpersonal mindfulness as a means to bring mindfulness into relationship and bringing mindfulness explicitly into the coaching relationship by teaching it to others. It explores self-compassion as a means of actively promoting mental and emotional well-being and self-care. The book also explores the role mindfulness plays in developing emotional intelligence and vertical leadership development. It considers a systems perspective, where conscious capitalism and resonant organisations secure long term competitive advantage through an increased capacity for agility, adaptation and change.
