ABSTRACT

On February 26, 1993, a truck laden with 1,200 pounds (544 kilograms) of dynamite exploded in the basement parking lot of one of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, in New York’s downtown business district. The blast carved a 200-foot (61-meter) crater in the parking lot, tore a hole in the ceiling, and poured rubble onto the subway station below. The explosion killed six people and injured more than a thousand. Fortunately, the structure of the 110- story tower remained unshaken; otherwise, the death toll would have been enormous. In the aftermath of one of the worst terrorist incidents in the United States to date, police and FBI agents set to work finding out who was responsible.
