ABSTRACT

Policy affecting women in the workplace goes well beyond the legislation discussed in the previous chapter. This chapter delves into policy in the executive and judicial branches of government. The executive branch actions are divided into actions by the political leadership of the executive branch, such as president and cabinet, and the administrative units of the federal government. The administrative leg of government is involved in women and work policy enforcement. An integration of legislation with executive and judicial policy can be seen in Exhibit 3.1. In this chapter, we discuss the roles of the Department of Labor (DOL) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in issues affecting the status of women in public service organizations. In addition, we briefly describe proactive projects funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
