ABSTRACT
The early stages of the Cultural Revolution were preoccupied with questions of political rehabilitation,l and even in the years following the Cultural Revolution political rehabilitation similarly affected virtually every aspect of society. Not only were older cadres who had been purged or maligned during the Cultural Revolution gradually restored to power or posthumously honoured, but entire historical epoches, figures, and even cultural forms, themes and styles were 'rehabilitated'.
