ABSTRACT

In the 1945–60 period, new patterns for restructuring urban phenomena were put in place, and the first round of building (mostly all-white suburbs, and some new construction inside the cities) got under way. The following 1960–68 period saw incredible amounts of new building all over the land: new interstate and suburban highway construction was, perhaps, the most visible, pervasive, and even invasive form, with great clearances for urban renewal projects a close second.
