ABSTRACT

Poet, translator, essayist, critic, and one of the first women poets whose poetry shows a modern woman's sensibility as seen in such poems as 'Mask' and 'Mermaids'. Hu Pinqing is a native of Zhejiang Province. While she is a versatile and prolific writer, in my opinion she is a much underrated fine lyric poet, Hu has numerous publications, which include several volumes of French translations of Chinese classical and modern poetry, Chinese translations of French and English literature, and a critical biography of the celebrated woman poet of the twelfth century, Li Qingzhao. Collections of her own prose and poetry include Artificial Flowers, Crystal Ball, Thorny Flowers, Glass Man, and Cold Fragrance. A makeup mirror A soul deeply cloistered the precious pond of Narcissus another sort of lake because of you I'm able to observe my self. I am one who has no love for masks. A life of masquerade is my only existence.
