ABSTRACT

Li Zhengnai started writing and publishing her poems in poetry journals in the early fifties. Her first book, Ten Thousand Feathers That Are Poems, was not published until 1984. Li is among the first Taiwanese women poets to write on topics that concern women, such as a young girl's awakened sexuality in 'The Tea Leaves-Picking Girl'. Mountains walk not mountains speak not the clouds move the winds blow the affinities of grass and trees are drawn for miles and miles. Mountains speak not mountains talk not walking alone on Cold Mountain the rain. Mountain shouts at the mountain mountain not shouting at the mountain mountain still sitting in the abyss of time. The older one gets the more one values silence but when you feel my silence I'm already invisible in the night fog's absolute silence. The tranquility within the heart how can it be spoken of by a word of Zen.
