ABSTRACT

Pen name of Zhou Cuiqing. Born in Taiwan, Dou Si started writing poetry in 1958. Her works have appeared widely in various poetry journals and newspapers in Taiwan; in 1963 she published her first collected poems, The Profile. Dou Si also writes fiction. The noted poet/critic Zhang Mo characterized her poetry as having 'a kind of sharpness, melancholy and tenderness'. Dou Si's husband, Bi Jia, is also a poet. Though the cold wind blows and blows it cannot blow away this sullen air face to face we stand our eyes meet in silence. Suddenly the sound of a distant bells lowly rises, like a small path that stretches on and on under our feet now and again our words drop to the ground and take root.
