ABSTRACT

This chapter examines how communication is the cornerstone of learning. Along the way we try to evaluate what we are doing and its impact on the organization. Communication will be shown to be the key to building bridges between learning and collective experience. Organizational learning is a function of communication. If we understand the principles of effective communication, we can design continuously learning organizations. We need organizations composed of self-aware individuals in perpetual learning motion along with a culture that promotes sharing. Training is a perfect case in point. The training function in an organization seems to be meeting the fate of Human Resources (HR). HR departments are rapidly losing their relevance. An organization is an entity without any other purpose than to survive and succeed. Organizations with an open style of communication that treats the personalized channel of communication as a strategic tool succeeds in maximizing employees' learning experiences.
